Autotroph

This is a picture of a plant. It represents an autotroph. An autotroph is an organism that gets nutrients and energy from inorganic materials. The word "autotroph" means self-nourishing. There are two types of autotrophs: photoautotrophs, which get their energy from the sun, and chemoautotrophs, which get their energy from chemicals. Most plants, like the one in this photo, are photoautotrophs.
